I saw something the other day that perfectly encapsulates one of the differences in attitude between NZ and the States.

In the States, if you see a city bus that’s not available, its sign will state forcefully: OUT OF SERVICE

In Kiwiland, the bus’s sign will take that extra bit of energy to say it politely: SORRY, I’M OUT OF SERVICE

It’s a small difference, but telling. They obviously send their mass transit vehicles to finishing school, while our buses just don’t give a damn.
