You can’t live in southern California for any length of time without picking up some Spanish. This helps for ordering at fine establishments like Taco Bell, but it’s even more useful for knowing where the hell you are.

Buena Vista and Palos Verdes are just sounds. I’m sure I would have remembered them eventually, but it sure helped to know they mean Good View and Green Woods in the one language I know how to speak reasonably well.

And this is why I should learn the Maori language. I keep confusing things (like mixing up Rotorua and Rangitoto in the “Home” video) and as soon as I hear most place names they slip straight from my mind.

I picked up Spanglish pretty well, so if I can’t learn Te Reo Maori, at least I hope I learn Maorish (or would it be Engri?).
