I was half-listening to the TV when I heard that some department store was selling the seventh-largest city in England.

Wow, I thought. That’s pretty cool. But is the English treasury that strapped for cash?  And do the good people of Manchester have no say in the matter?

But apparently, in New Zealand they use the word “Manchester” to describe towels and linens and stuff.

Why? I have no idea. Explanations and/or wild-ass guesses are welcome.
